Despite the climbing temperature, the Middle Fork Willamette remained stable on Saturday as I floated from the Guard rail launch in Oakridge to Black canyon. The river level has since risen sharply and has probably adversely affected the fishing and definitely has made floating les enjoyable. Levels are still very high for productive bank fishing in the Oakridge area. The day started with a few...filed under: fishing, willamette
I took a few photos on Saturday afternoon just before we got hit with a big thunder and lightning storm, you can see the others at Flickr. Bob, Chuck, Dave and I were about 22 miles above Hills Creek Reservoir on the Middle Fork of the Willamette river. We had a nice secluded spot that Bob remembered from a camping trip many moons ago. The river in this stretch had some sweet looking...filed under: willamette

The new Planned Parenthood building that is supposed to go up on NE Martin Luther King Ave. has had it's share of protesters. Apparently, there are enough of them to scare away Walsh Construction, according to The Oregonian: The construction company that was set to build a Planned Parenthood clinic in Northeast Portland has pulled out of the project because of pressure from anti-abortion...its not personal, but he wants to protect his family: When Planned Parenthood of the Columbia/Willamette signed on as the anchor te...

If Union Thug shill Brad Avakian gets his way that will happen. Interesting thought running under the radar right now. There was this little blurb in the Willamette Week "murmurs" section. Thus...

This week's "Rogue of the Week" for Willamette Week is a national figure, but a former Portland (KATU-TV) broadcaster, Bill O'Reilly. O'Reilly was only engaging in his usual routine of overheated misinformation, but this time he was pointing it back at Portland. Hence the reference. Details at the link. In general, as the Week suggested, if you take O'Reilly's core shot - If you let the...
Another restaurant was targeted by animal rights activists for serving foie gras, Alberta Street Oyster Bar and Grill. Though I don't think you can call the protest a "success". Before they got started, the owner of the restaurant greeted the protesters and informed them that the foie gras had been removed from the menu. It turns out the removal was part of a strategic shift to shop at local...we now expect protesters to target individuals entering the restaurant? Read the story in Willamette Week...

This photo is from hisashiburi via Flickr. I love it because it captures perfectly the quality of light I have grown to love, which is so unique to Portland. Grey skies against a golden-lit cityscape. Taken in the spring from the west side of the Willamette River, looking towards the convention center....filed under: willamette
Yesterday was a great day for sustainability in Multnomah County. We'll have the biggest solar installation in the Pacific Northwest and be an example of public and private collaboration helping to reduce our carbon footprint. Here's a link to the Willamette Week's story and the Oregonian's story....
Lest you get the wrong idea, I'm a big fan of Willamette Week. I read it religiously, and think they do a bang-up job when it comes to investigative journalism, and getting the news out about the various things that happen in our fair city in any given week. That said, I've read some stuff lately that's raised a minor hackle. First, this article. Specifically, the sentence "So, yuppies who...
