An e-mail questioning "change" and supporting John McCain is widely circulating the internet. The author purports to be one Daniel Frost, a retired marine, from Kokomo Indiana. In fact the essay is claimed to be written by Joe Porter. "The original version I wrote on June 16, which is secured on a mail server at the Federal Courthouse in Urbana, Illinois, is below: With best regards, Joe Porter"...a politician?, I press. Uh, well, no, we just want a lot of stuff changed, so we're voting for Obama, they state. So the current sy...

When faced with a new piece of information, we filter the item through our own internal biases in an attempt to make sense of it. The recent Vice Presidential choices of Barack Obama and John McCain gave me an interesting illustrative example. When Barack announced Joe Biden, the conversation was about Biden's experience, his voting record, his speaking ability — whether he could help Obama...

I've probably given Pastor Rick Warren more pixels than he deserves on this precious, precious blog, but for those who think he's some kind of departure from the Kulturkampf Christianism of Falwell, Robertson, Dobson, and the rest, it's worth noting the questions he chose to ask the presidential candidates -- and those he chose not to ask at the Saddleback Forum, in which McCain famously repeated...lie about a cross-in-the-dirt. As shown in the transcripts (Obama, McCain), Pastor Rick hit on several hotbuttons of the Christian ri...

Yes, this is a political post. You knew it was coming, so here it is. I will admit to some hesitation about writing and publishing this post. I am a firm believer that who one votes for is a personal choice and no one should be judged for that. I admit that I voted for W twice-once with a heavy heart, and once with an absolutely-leaden one-and, when all is said and done, I don't regret it. I...can't say that I'd be horribly upset. When this all began, a year or so ago, I was sold on Barack Obama. Here was a young visionary, s...

I watched most of the major speeches from the Democratic convention this week, and like many others, I was often moved to tears by their eloquent rhetoric and fighting spirit. Hillary Clinton was forceful and gracious in her endorsement of Barack Obama. Bill Clinton gave an even more compelling and stirring speech. And to my surprise, John Kerry gave the best speech of the night and of his...

Alberta Street Faces and FashionThis month's installment of Faces and Fashion on Alberta, coming to you live from the evening of the Democratic Convention. A few TVs on the street and lots of people crowding into bars during Obama's speech. Which is why this first image is so appropriate: And this one also, of Christophe. "I felt like exercizing my freedom of expression tonight." That's just creepy....

Of course Sean Hannity will see it differently this afternoon, but I think Pat Buchanan spoke for a lot of small-c conservatives last night. The first Obama counter-punch has been thrown. I still haven't seen it, but apparently it was a doozy....

Just look at those kidsYou want to know something about a man and his family, take a look at their kids. A couple of pictures from last night really struck me. The Obama kids are 10 and 7 yet look so comfortable in their own skin. Most kids that age, when introduced to a stranger, will make themselves scarce. These two though... It's a far cry from this kid who shockingly turned into this...

Obama's speech gives us everything we need to rebut and to discuss what distinguishes Democrats from Republicans. When someone says Obama lacks experience, your response should be: (1) Are you saying I don't have the experience to realize Iraq was a fiasco? (2) Are you saying I am wrong about the economy? (3) Are you saying I have no right to be concerned about health care or to...

The Obama headquarters will undoubtedly be a very busy place from September through October and up until election day on Noveber 4th. If you are interested in...
