Aaron Fitt of Baseball America says the Beavers are going back to Omaha in 2009. The projected field includes Cal State Fullerton, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Oregon State, San Diego, Texas, and Texas A&M. The next four teams are Auburn, Baylor, Rice, and Vanderbilt. How will the Beavers do it? Fitt says it will take the following: Maturity of the 2007 recruits, notably...taking last year off, "Hook" is finally back in the business at UCLA. This isn't exactly NCAA news, but did you catch the finis...

A day short of five months ago, we learned that starting strong safety Al Afalava destroyed a city bus shelter with his car and was charged with DUI Hit and Run charges. He'll miss the nationally televised season opener against Stanford. Now, we learn that free safety Bryan Payton has elected to leave the team. This is a tough one to figure out, as a NCAA Divison I athlete who has a chance to...

Update [2007-11-13 14:13:34 by Dave]: Bumped from the diaries. This topic is just too provocative not to give a feature spot to.--DaveThis season is once again going to end with a clusterf*%& at the top of the rankings with multiple teams claiming to have been shafted out of a shot at the national title. This will invariably renew calls for a "+1 playoff system" or some other sort of...of a true, undisputed national title winner. I believe the affinity for this comes from what NCAA basketball has created with March Ma...

(Bumped from the diaries. This is an important topic for discussion, thanks to engeljd for bringing it up --Dave)... is the schedule.Yes, we tanked it down the stretch. Yes, this has been the pattern the last several years (save 2005, when Clemens' injury woke everyone up at the right time). But here is my very amateur opinion. Last year's road conference schedule was pretty brutal... USC,...year's illegal-payments-to-player s scandal? Turns out that the funds come from dogfighting. NCAA ruling- Death Penalty...

Steve Detwiler, torn finger ligament and all, collected all 6 rbi's in a 6-1 victory, as the underdog Fresno State Bulldogs stunned the favored Georgia Bulldogs to capture the College World Series title. Justin Wilson came up big as well, throwing 8 dominating innings, allowing just one run on 5 hits while striking out nine. He blew away hitters with a live fastball and a great assortment of other... for a CWS title winner ever as well as becoming the lowest seed in any collegiate sport to win a NCAA Title. I guess the phrase underd...

After two fulfilling games of the Championship Series, it all comes down to a final game, Game 3. The NCAA College World Series champion will be decided tonight, which means the Beavers only have a few hours left as defending National Champions. The Beavers will hand over their "green jacket" to either the Fresno State Bulldogs or the Georgia Bulldogs tonight: Here's why both teams are...

Rose or Beasley: Who goes #1?Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley, for their respective Memphis and Kansas State squads, made names for themselves with their tremendous play, and in some instances, utter domination. Rose, a native of Chicago, is projected by many to go number one overall, therefore falling into the lap of his hometown team. Although the Bulls don't necessarily need a point guard, with Kirk Hinrich and Ben...of every opponent that stepped in his way, and his leadership to lead an overall mediocre to the NCAA Tournament, that he was robbed, a...

According the Max Unger, the season starts today. In Moseley's RG article today on the beginning of coluntary summer workouts, Unger is quoted, "Winter and spring is recovery, and this is when you really get stronger. This is crucial. This is where it all happens." The story by Moseley today covers the early drills and conditioning, and the incoming freshman Jeremiah Masoli. However, Moseley...in J-Stew and were a big hit with the players. Unfortunately, this has since been banned by the NCAA (boy, are they useful or what), b...

Mr. Duck's Vote For Pac-10 CommissionerI had the chance to get a rare phone interview with the reclusive Mr. Duck this morning. He was kind enough to email his picture, and while he wouldn't disclose his location, my guess is it's somewhere "tropical." The blogoshpere is rife with everyone's two cents on who should replace Tom Hansen as Pac-10 commissioner so I asked Mr. Duck his opinion. "You know Mike, I have given this a...I'll try to catch up with you later (click). Somehow I don't think the rest of the Pac-10 (or the NCAA) would buy into his plan. GO...
