Last nights speech by Hillary Clinton was very impressive and may have been the best speech I've heard her give during the campaign. Monday nights speech by Michelle Obama was likewise very good and helped bring her to life for more of the public that may not have heard her speak all that much up until now. But, is it enough? Will Bill Clinton's speech tonight put Obama over the top? So...posted on Good Tithings in Portland - 3:44 PM
I sure am glad that Rush Limbaugh's call for riots in Denver during the Democratic Convention have not come about. Rush Limbaugh has done immeasurable damage to America. Rush is blow-hard and rabble rouser. And an irresponsible person. I wonder if he knows better somewhere in his heart? Surely he can't be this blind? But maybe his motivation is greed and the thirst for power...the convention very well so far. And thank you Democrats nationwide for a great convention. Hillary and Michelle both gave great spee...Originally published at still a ways away. Please leave any comments there.I am struck, watching the convention on C-SPAN at night and then reading the articles in the papers the next day, that the political journalists and I might as well be watching two entirely separate events. Theirs would probably not be changed much by the addition of monster trucks and Britney Spears. And I could go the...of my life without ever again reading a teaser like, "Did Hillary Rodham Clinton deliver a speech that will endure? Did it find mor...

The anticipation is exquisite. And every day it escalates. I've been watching political conventions on TV ever since I was a little girl, and you'd think I would have figured this out by now. But watching on television is not at all the same experience as being in the hall. And yesterday was a great illustration of that principle. In a "normal" year (as in, any year other than this year),...posted on Loaded Orygun - 11:41 AM -

Kvetching and Convening by Will Durst Now that the Olympic flame has been doused by the tears of a thousand jade blossoms, it's time for America's most athletically dexterous mutants to stash their red, white and blue togs and head home. And the national spotlight turns to the political conventions featuring our most ethically dexterous mutants. We do cherish our little freak shows. The...credential gets pulled? Hillary does the right thing All eyes were on Hillary Clinton last night. She was set to deliver the prime time speech. The media punditry was doing its level best to keep alive the notion that she had the ability to deliver or deny votes to Barack Obama based on the tone of her address. Well, that's a load of crap. The 18 million voters who checked the box for Hillary in the primaries...posted on Sound and fury, signifying not in Portland - 10:15 AM
By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN 'I love this country": Those are the magic words that Michelle Obama said at the Democratic National Convention last (Monday)night. They're the words we've wanted to hear from her ever since we saw her say that she was proud of her country "for the first time in my adult life" now that her husband was winning primaries en route to the White House. Did... Last night, she answered - loud and clear. We've watched the scripted familial intimacies Hillary Clinton always shares from the podiu...

WOW! Did you read Maureen Dowd's piece in the NY Times today? In part, here is what she wrote: ... this Democratic convention has a vibe so weird and jittery, so at odds with the early thrilling, fairy dust feel of the Obama revolution, that I had to consult Mike Murphy, the peppery Republican strategist and former McCain guru. What is that feeling in the air? I...and supporters wandering the halls, spewing vindictiveness, complaining of slights, scheming about Hillarys roll call and plottin...posted on The Doc Is In in Grants Pass - 8:13 AM
Notwithstanding the efforts of political pundits to wring out and gin up every hint of Clinton-Obama tension in hopes of restoring last spring's highest-rated reality-based melodrama, Hillary Clinton's speech to the Democratic National Convention said everything it needed to say, especially this: I want you to ask yourselves: Were you in this campaign just for me? Or were you in it for that...

Many have worried that the Democratic Party was too divided during the primary to come together for the general election. I sure hope that's not true. It's pretty clear to me that all Democrats lose if McCain gets elected in November. The effort to bring the party together during the convention continued tonight. The highlight of the evening was Hillary Clinton's amazing...posted on Activistas in Portland - 3:50 AM - [2 clicks]
