As I mentioned in my previous post, my dad turned 82 on Sunday, so a bunch of us piled into a minivan and drove to Salem to take a ride on the Willamette Queen, formerly the Belle of Newport (not to be confused with the Newport Belle, which is currently a B&B in Newport). This is the Willamette Queen as she looks today. My dad and the Captain/Owner in the wheelhouse. Here's dad...Sunday, August 24th
Today I'm out at Riversong (Mom & Dad's), as our home is shown as an Open House today. It's a sweet retreat, and we all agree that it's way more fun now that we all don't live together. :-) Really, in the best sense, it feels like a treat to be out in the boonies,...

I drove around with the kids and Joe (Felice's dad) today and hit a few yard sales, Goodwill and the Habitat for Humanity building materials surplus store...We didn't get much, but I think I did alright. I thought it was just one of those grabbers for picking up stuff you can't reach. Turns out it's a Gentle Giant snake tong...$1.00 for a $79.00 tool! Ok, raise your hand if you know that my Dad works at Ecotrust. Good. You've been paying attention. When I was little, I used to tell him how much I loved him and then ask for something (most often it was for some sort of pet). Well, last week, he returned the favor. He was hoping that you, my loving, adoring viewers would help him out with something, he and Ecotrust believe so strongly...

My daughter called from her new dorm room on the Colorado State University campus! She was all alone and feeling rather lonely, as she unpacked her boxes and tubs and waited for her dad and brother to return from a hike. She was a bit weepy, which is VERY unusual for this girl! When she tears up, I know something is really bothering her. I had one of those "mom-moments" where I almost said, "I'll...

My parents were gardeners, Dad especially. We had a good-sized lot in Menlo Park, about half way between San Francisco and San Jose. On it were two apple trees, two walnut trees, a plum tree, and space for a vegetable garden. Every spring, Dad would clear the plot for the vegetables and do whatever needed to be done to the trees. Once that was done, my parents would turn their attention to the...

I have signed up for another track day. While I felt I was finished tracking the 355 watching Dad do his Pro Drive day made me want to get back on the track so when the opportunity to do another Ferrari track day presented itself I took it. I am planning on bringing both the Porsche and Ferrari. I will drive the Porsche during the slower early sessions then shift to the Ferrari as things pick...

The other evening we were over at a friends house hanging out and having wine on their patio. It finally cooled down in Portland a bit so it was nice to be outside. We watched heat lightning in the far off distance and enjoyed the evening. My wife was recalling a conversation that she had with of the girls and in that conversation she referred to the DD's father as "your daddy," which is...filed under: dad
Friend, fellow MFSO member and Gold Star dad Al Zappala died last week... You are with your boy again now. Rest in.

It's a discouraging that while preparing for the upcoming hunting season I run into the "Wildlife and Habitat Adaptation Sub-committee of the Oregon Global Warming Commission" on the ODFW website. I take a quick break from learning what Daddy Government sets forth in terms of new bird regulations this year to see how many Sub-Committees there are in the Global Warming Commission. It appears that...
