Washington, DC - 08/25/2008 - Joshua S. Reichert, managing director of the Pew Environment Group, issued the following statement in response to President Bushs announcement today of three new areas in U.S. ocean waters that will be assessed for possible protection as marine sanctuaries or monuments. Two years ago President Bush set a new standard for global ocean protection when he...and education, and monument management. There are always winners and losers when people change their purchasing habits. For many, joining the locavore movement involves the blithe assumption that they're taking business away from factory farms that are hurting the environment. Even Wikipedia points out that notion. Local food is, by definition, food locally grown. Many local food proponents tend to equate it with food produced by... In Europe, it's now politically acceptable to go a step or two further in the name of combating climate change. An increasing number...

The basic neoliberal agenda is to keep government as minimally involved in the economy as possible, to promote private... is whether the increased challenges of such externalities as environmental degradation, global climate change, poverty and inequality...Tuesday, August 19th
On Sunday I wrote about the tragic flaw of the Democratic Party: lack of unity. Just two days later and another Democrat displays a shocking level of political ignorance and disloyalty to his party. Disturbingly, this guy used to be a fairly high-level Democrat: But Mr. Clinton also lauded Mr. Obamas rival, Senator John McCain, and said that either candidate would be progressive on the issue...climate change. Obviously, I favor Senator Obamas energy positions, and Democrats have...

...the usual trend for thunderstorms in Central Oregon is to have them develop in late morning through early afternoon and then peter out when Prime Time looms. It's rather convenient, actually, from a TV viewing standpoint. Once in a great long while - like every two or three years - there may be some early morning thunderstorms that liven up that whole getting-out-of-bed thing and maybe a few...ELEVATIONS. We are always cautioned, and rightfully so, to resist drawing conclusions about climate change based on individual events....
I don't have a lot to say about "Bishop Hill's" alleged history of the Hockey Stick Affair. The first thing that jumps out at me is that Bishop Hill reconstructed his account from Climate Audit. It's a long tale - and the longest posting I think I've ever written and piecing it together from the individual CA postings has been a long, hard but fascinating struggle. Therefore it seems it must have...I'm a journalist, not a historian, so I only write first drafts. But if reporting in the swamps of climate change science has taught me...
