Here's some sites I found on July 23rd that I thought was worth sharing: Back-to-the-Future-like trash-burning cars - Remember the film "Back to the Future" where doc would feed the Delorian with trash? Looks like that wasn't as far fetched as one might think....

I know there's nothing a blogger can say to change the minds and attitudes of those out there everyday on bikes and in cars, "sharing" the road. But I think my perspective is one yet to be represented in the recent mudslinging forum set in motion by a drunk biker's belligerent actions a few weeks ago (i.e. the city transportation employee who threw his bike at a driver). I am someone who...Monday, July 21st
I sat at the bus stop, tired, checking up on this and that on my iPhone. The bench was comfortable, and no one else was around. Cars would drive by, and around the corner people waited outside the sushi shop, but there was no one in my immediate vicinity. The bus wasn't going to show up for another hour. Even though it was only a 20 minute walk home from where I sat, still, I sat and surfed and...

The roads are dangerous. Cyclists are slapping cars with their hands, breaking bus windows with their fists, vandalizing cars, and pounding on vehicles with their bicycles. (Insert the word "allegedly" wherever necessary, and thanks to Professor Bogdanski for gathering these stories.) It's time to separate cyclists from cars so that both can ride safely. We need more car lanes on our streets....

Every year Allan and I get caught up in watching the Tour. This week I noticed something significant - the coaches who ride along in cars right behind the participants are constantly speaking their cyclist via an ear piece. We got to listen in for a bit as one coach spoke to his cyclist. It went something like this: You are strong! Be courageous! Take it easy on this hill and then take them. You...

For the third time in less than a week, "Bikes vs. Cars" makes the front page. The windshield-surfer from yesterday's road rage incident has become something of a local celebrity. The cell-phone video of his wild ride was replayed numerous times on the TV news last night and it was even played and discussed on NBC's Today...

Oh, the cyclist and the driver should be friends, Oh, the cyclist and the driver should be friends. One drives cars that guzzle gas, One wears spandex on his ass, But that's no reason why they cain't be friends. (Apologies to Rodgers and Hammerstein) When the International Herald Tribune notices Oregon's existence, that's always nice--except when the story features phrases like this:...

Interesting piece here on the City of Portland parking patrol's ticket writing campaign for vehicles lacking front license plates. Apparently, our parking cops have written 3,000 high-dollar tickets on parked cars without front plates. Assuming the report is accurate-and sometimes they aren't-here's the problem. While I could be mistaken, I believe that the basis of these...
The lesser evil doctrine is the rent-a-cop who keeps cars safe by shitting in the seats and slashing the tires, who then asks, "would you prefer for it to be stolen?". It's the tenured professor who celebrates academic freedom by using grad students to write his books and, when confronted, demands to know if you...
