Sunset Park....Wow..Renovations to Sunset Park are about complete. The work has taken all winter but the result is tremendous! Sunset Park is located at Country Club Road and 45th Street. Just about across the street from Stony Brook senior citizen community. There is a new boardwalk along the creek with signs along the way explaining wetlands environments. The walk is about one mile long. Just wonderful....

The Pathetic State Of Bush SupportThis know nothing blowhard wandered onto the set of Hardball with one thing in mind - endlessly repeat the latest neocon "talking point", literally shouting it at the audience while refusing to answer a question from Matthews. Who asked it 28 times. Cheap, ignorant, cartoonish political blather like this fool brought to the table is, in the truest sense of the word, a cancer....

This election year is important for so many reasons. Setting aside the usual issues that affect the lives of everyday Americans…issues such as the economy, Iraq, Taxes etc., the events of yesterday in California should raise awareness of another issue that can impact our lives more than those previously listed. The issue at hand is the appointment of Judges. Yesterday, the California Supreme...

Two problems become apparent on the 3rd floor of Ballard Hall on a 94 degree day. One, the heat is cranking in my office full blast. I think there is no real control over it here, if the steam plant is making steam, the heat is ON. And with some days coming up in the 60s, I guess they think they are still going to need heat. This makes my office about 173 degrees. Two, by about 1pm the...

So, the California Supreme Court has said that gay men and lesbians should have the right to marry. Kudos to those who will actually benefit from this. Sorry to all those queers who aren't homonormative: you're still hungry, in an "illegitimate" polyamorous relationship, not insured because even if you get married, your partner doesn't have a middle class job to get you family coverage,...

The first cats I got fixed on the Albany cat grant have been abandoned in their rental, locked inside, along with ferrets and birds, for seven days before being found. The cats are now at SafeHaven and the cops want to charge these folks and I hope they do. Funny thing, I take photos of the cats I get fixed, so they sure can't make the claim they're not theirs. Here's the kicker. I took...

Looks like Josh make a smart move: Three members of the Lebanon School Board gathered for a special meeting Thursday before the regular meeting of the school district's budget committee to revisit the district's recommendation to hire the two. Vice Chairman Josh Wineteer made the motion to hire both and Chairwoman Sherrie Sprenger and board member Chris Fisher joined him in voting yes. This is a...

Picture this. Rose petals adorably scattered on the floor by little children, church festively decorated in shades of red (the color of love), and the sounds of "Can you feel the love tonight" (by Elton John) playing in the background. Then finally, 15 minutes past schedule, the groom emerges from one side of the church, and the bride appears from the opposite side of the church... all rise! ...

Dead Terrorist SpeaksDubai - Osama Bin Laden, who died in late 2001, rose from the grave yet again in an audio tape, this time to mark Israel's 60th anniversary. Known for his uncanny ability in re-animating to deliver reminders of who americans are to blame for the fake terror event on September 11, Bin Laden has placed growing emphasis on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "We will continue, God permitting, to...

Al Qaeda 'Planning Euro 2008 Attack'"The Euro 2008 tournament is a target cited by the Islamist terrorist network," federal police spokesman Juerg Buehler told Swiss newspaper La Liberte. We took off a few minutes after the sun dropped below the mountains. One minute it was there, and the next it was gone. The two young, white men behind me in seats behind me kept quoting Friday. While the engines were spinning up, they argued over the best part of the flight, take-off or landing. Landing, apparently, was better, because "you're there." As the brakes were tripped and the plane...

For tomorrow, I have seven cats lined up already. I went out again to the BS colony. I'd heard that at three neighbors down, that would be BS Overflow Overflow Overflow, or, for short, BSO3, two females and a male were being fed and the two females have two kittens, both girls, they are sharing. I'm done with BS proper, BSO1 and BSO2. But, wouldn't you know it, BS03 has five unfixed cats....

Note on Explaining the Credit CrisisYesterday, I gave a talk to the Salem Rotary Club about the credit crisis. I attempted in about 20 minutes to give a broad overview of the short history of the crisis. Doing so forced me to paint in fairly broad strokes and neglect a lot of detail, but I think the essence is correct. The text below is a paraphrase of what I said as I did not speak from a script, I have also included my power...

Last week Slater and I (+aza spoke) attended SF MusicTech. The goal being to see what is going on in the modern music industry, particularly in tech. It definitely helped me realize that the music industry is not dead — just the "selling round plastic at a store" part is. There were a couple re-occurring themes that I picked up on. 1) Artists seem to be gaining more control as everything...

Barack Obama already has significant support in the Corvallis community. However, it never hurts to have additional support from a member of the iconic Kennedy family. American Dream Pizza on Monroe had quite a crowd of Barack Obama...

State of the add-ons report is coming a little late this week — because we are on the verge of RC1. Once RC1 is out, it is time to test and update to 3.0.* on AMO. Right now, a lot of our major add-ons are not considered ready for Firefox 3, because they are not marked as compatible with 3.0 or 3.0.*. I've updated our compatibility chart to reflect this move. We will give those developers a...

The man, the myth, the monotoneSo it's a long time until July 25, but the latest version of the new X-Files movie trailer just came out, and I can't wait... admittedly, the trailer leaves something to be desired, and critics are already sharpening their knives about this one, but I am a die-hard X-Files fan, and no matter how bad the film could potentially be, it must be redeemable, for one reason and one reason alone. Some people think that just because Obama has insurmountable leads in delegates, superdelegates, and the popular vote, it's all over for Hillary. Not so, says Gail Collins of the NY Times. Here's how Hillary could still get the nomination: 1) A big, big win in Kentucky next Tuesday. Ideally, Obama should be limited to no more than 100 votes. 2) Oregon, scheduled for the same day, inexplicably...

It appears that my assumption, made in an earlier post about the stupidity of the gas tax holiday, about inelastic supply from refiners was wrong. Mea culpa. The reason for the incorrect assumption is quite interesting...
