I was out of town last weekend when Obama selected Biden to be his VP. I exchanged a few texts with friends and advisers as I drove across the high desert. Mostly they sought assurance that Biden would be a decent pick, particularly after I knocked him around a bit. I remember thinking at the time that should Obama lose the election, the post-mortem surrounding Biden's selection would be a most...

Of course Sean Hannity will see it differently this afternoon, but I think Pat Buchanan spoke for a lot of small-c conservatives last night. The first Obama counter-punch has been thrown. I still haven't seen it, but apparently it was a doozy....

You want to know something about a man and his family, take a look at their kids. A couple of pictures from last night really struck me. While you were most likely doing something productive and perhaps patriotic last night, I was at a friend's house watching my Oregon State Beavers stink the place up. It wasn't like Stanford looked all that great, either. The Cardinal had zero passing game and gave up over 400 yards in the air to Moevao. But Beaver mistakes and a porous run defense did them in. Things don't get any easier for...

One of the many pleasures of my time working out in Camas was the morning drive out SR-14. Fantastic views of the Columbia and Mt Hood. Toward the end of the drive, as the Camas paper mill comes into sight, you cross two bridges. The first, a two-lane bridge in desperate need of replacement, takes you over a channel of the Columbia River, used by the mill to move wood pulp and such up and down...

From Pete in Parkrose, with whom I had a spirited exchange today. The Hillary supporter who made the McCain ad is cute, but I bet she locks her car doors before pulling out of the garage. I bet she does too. It will be interesting to hear her thoughts about Hillary after these last few days....

One of the big undercurrents in Denver this week has been the massive police presence on the streets. They're ready for Chicago 1968, but it's been pretty quiet. So when it's pretty quiet, why not go out and look for some trouble? A cigar-smoking Denver police sergeant, accompanied by a team of five other officers, first put his hands on Eslocker's neck, then twisted the producer's arm behind...
