I will be in my home state of Indiana this coming week. Well, state I grew up in- I won't know if it still has hints of a homey feel until I arrive. Oregon is my home now, but I am really looking forward to reconnecting with old friends, family, familiar faces and acquaintances. I've had dreams at night since moving out here where I see and talk with friends of my past and I'm always happy to...

Lately in the realm of this blog, I haven't had many political rants or reactions to the day's events. I haven't found reasons to tear down John McCain or Obama, or to build either one up. I haven't cared to buy into the rave surrounding Jesse Jackson's comments about cutting Obama's nuts out, the death of influential bigot Jesse Helms, nor have I fumed about something much more important: The...

Multnomah Falls / Blalock CanyonEast of Portland along I-84. This is a really nice bit of scenery, full of mist in the air and a breathtaking amount of natural splendor (minus the nearby expressway). There were hundreds of people there, taking away from the spectacular or "escaped" sense one may find in more secluded areas, but the awe and wonder is still there. Several miles east is Blalock Canyon, a location that pictures...

I had a colonic today... yes, I know you wanted to know that. Turns out, I am healthier than I thought. To spare you the details, a little humor; share your ideas of good slogans for a colonic office. *Where the shit hits the fan (actually, the tube). *We guarantee not to show your poo-tube on Youtube. *Assholes welcome. *No hard feelings, occasional hard fecal clumps. *Flushing it out...

There is some guy in Corvallis, probably close to my age, who I can't quite figure out. I've seen him lately hanging around the OSU campus with a tiny hand drum and a full, large backpack, similar to what various drifters and vagabonds carry around. He's asked me for spare change in the past, as well as a ride home. I obliged to the ride home, and ended up having to roll the window down and not...

Umatilla's 'Nature Getaway'In arguably one of the more miserable locations in Oregon, the town of Umatilla has a nature path with the roar of the expressway nearby, the hum of powerlines overhead. I did get some good recordings of this area, and hopefully (?) some good photos. Free Hit...

We went to various places on the 4th of July- Beulah's friends had a small backyard BBQ, the Red, White and Blues Festival was going on and we came home to see a few distant fireworks as the displays lit up the sky to the Northeast. The festival was OK, but the music kinda sucked and I couldn't quite get past this thought: Why do events like this draw so, so many people while free speech forums...
